If you walked into a jewelry store and you pointed to particular ring that is $150 and asked the sales person to show it to you, but they bring out a $250.00 right that was next to it to try to immediately try to up sell you, how would you feel.
Or when you go to Best Buy, and you show interest in a 40 inch flat screen TV. and you decide you want it, and while you are turned around or not paying attention someone puts a 50 inch screen on your cart instead. You haven’t noticed the bigger box and you get to check out and it’s 30% more? Ummmm, I don’t think so.
Are you really getting the arrangement you liked in first place?
So why do we let flower sellers online pull this fast one on us. Here are my reasons plain and simple why it’s a fast one, and yes we did this at Florist.com, and we stopped it, because we had some complaints, the first week.
So don’t you hate it when you go to Large Flower websites, they show you drop dead gorgeous arrangement for $39.99, you’re looking at the picture and there is the price, so you click on the image to get more info? And if you don’t have a magnifying glass or you’re not paying close attention this is what happens if you’re not paying attention. It says Please select your bouquet price. Wait, didn’t I just do that on the page before?
- A. Your 49.99 arrangement that you liked has now been upgraded to a 49.99 arrangements in the blink of an eye.
- B. You need to keep your eye on the ball, or in this case the radio button. That sucka just moved down a half inch and it’s going to cost you $20.00 more
Be extra careful when pushing the “Submit Order” button!
At Florist.com we allowed the consumer to opt out of the fast switch right in the shopping cart. But I notice no one else is offering this solution. And If I missed one, please bring it to my attention. There are two solutions for companies that do this.
- Offer the consumer a very quick and clear way to drop their price back to what they wanted to spend.
- Do not do a fast switch at all, and keep the roving bullet on the original price from the previous page.
And if you see this happen to you, don’t just be a positive conversion and go along with the slick quick product and price changes. The best thing to do if you want to send beautiful flowers, choose a local florist by typing in the zip code of where you want to buy flowers or you can search here.

This was posted on a flower board on Linked in, I wanted to re-post it here.
So very true! Thank you for your insights, I enjoyed reading your site and know that we have to be masters of our profession. It is also great to see people who are willing to speak out for all of us in the floral world who really do have a full service location.
